About Us

Thanks to Annette Ruzicka (Photographer)
We are the Ngarinyin people, the Traditional Owners of Wilinggin Country—an expansive and culturally rich part of the central and northern Kimberley in Western Australia.
Our identity is deeply tied to this land, shaped by the ancestral stories and laws passed down through generations. These stories, known as Lalai (the Dreaming), are embedded across the rivers, gorges, and ranges of our Country and guide the way we live, protect, and care for it.
Wilinggin Country stretches across more than 6.3 million hectares, encompassing one of the largest intact tropical savannah ecosystems in the world. We are part of the broader Wandjina-Wunggurr cultural bloc, sharing deep spiritual and familial connections with the Dambimangari and Uunguu peoples. Together, our land claims helped shape one of the most significant native title recognitions in the Kimberley.
The Native Title
The Wanjina‐Wunggurr (Native Title) Aboriginal Corporation is the relevant Registered Native Title Body Corporate (RNTBC) for the area. This native title holding body is often referred to as a Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) and as such the Wanjina‐Wunggurr (Native Title) Aboriginal Corporation is commonly referred to as the WWPBC.
Healthy Country
Our plan for a Healthy Country was been developed to help Ngarinyin people carry out land and cultural management activities within the Wanjina Wunggurr Wilinggin Native Title Area. It has pulled together a wide variety of information including traditional owners’ aspirations for looking after Country, and on the cultural, social and environmental values that underpin this.
